Our Curriculum

Our curriculum

The curriculum at Settlebeck is very varied. In addition, our commitment to treat all our students as individuals and our small size, allows us to personalise each student’s programme. 

The range of curriculum opportunities available to our students was judged ‘outstanding’ by Her Majesty’s Inspector in March 2011. 

In years 7 & 8, all children study:

English, Maths, Science, History, Geography, French, Technology, Food Technology, RE, Art, Music, Drama and PE. In addition, they all have PSHE lessons (Personal, Social and Health Education) which includes Citizenship. 

In years 9 & 10, all students study:

English, Maths, Double Science, PE and RE.

They can then choose GCSEs from:

French, Geography, Art, Drama, Catering, Product Design, GCSE PE, and the following more vocational courses: 

NVQ College courses in Childcare, Hair and Beauty, Motor Vehicle Maintenance, Construction. 

Young Apprenticeships in Catering, Performing Arts and Sports Leadership

Diplomas in Engineering, Creative, Arts and Media, Society, Health and Development 

LANTRA Land-Based Studies at level 1

In year 11:

Our students take an additional range of options. Most of these are GCSE but some are at level 3 (A level standard). All students take the short course (half-GCSE) in Citizenship. 

They can choose from:

AS Critical Thinking, Media Studies, Childcare, Resistant Materials, Spanish, Latin, Geography, Extended Research Project, Applied Science, Human Health and Physiology and Statistics.
